Milan-Malpensa Airport (Italy)

What?

Direct LH2 refuelling demonstration with operational protocols and a digital twin mode.
The demo site will be an Apron stand on the Milan-Malpensa apron. The fuselage of a P-180 aircraft will be equipped with LH2 tank and interface hoses from supply truck to tank demonstrator. The fuselage will be transported to Malpensa where a dry-run and wet-run demonstrations will be carried out. The demo will include start-up and testing sequences to show different steps in the first filling, refuelling and defueling procedures.
The demonstration will take place at the MXP apron. The fuselage of a P-180 aircraft will be outfitted with an LH2 tank and interface hoses connecting it to a supply truck. Following this, the fuselage will be transported to Malpensa, where dry-run and wet-run demonstrations will occur. These demonstrations will include start-up and testing sequences, illustrating various steps in the initial filling, refuelling, and defueling procedures.

Expected impact

To constitute a starting point to perform further refuelling operations of LH2 powered aircrafts on an airport.

Demonstration of tank swap refuelling with end-to-end logistics.
ALRIGH2T demonstration in Paris aims to test the handling of LH2 capsules and refuelling procedures for an H2 tank-swap aircraft within a real airport environment.
This involves setting up a prototype airside capsule storage area, conducting risk analyses and developing procedures, as well as implementing training programs for handling hydrogen capsules and loading them onto the aircraft.

To pave the way for the future development of operations with LH2 tank-swap aircraft.
